High-End Web Design Publication and Community, ~4,200,000 pageviews

Stylegala.com web design community screenshotI almost didn’t notice that stylegala.com is up for sale at SitePoint. It’s a highly popular web design community with lots of traffic. In the sales thread it says that there is about 4,200,000 monthly pageviews from 900,000 visits. There is of course also revenue which is about $2500 a month.

Well, it’s a very interesting website and there is too much about it for me to write about here. So check out the sales thread. Remember that such a site will take a lot of maintenance.

There has also been some buzz about this on various blogs.

It’s on auction with a starting bid of $30,000 which has already been made, also a $36,000 has been made. But that’s still a steal since the website is worth a lot more.

Is The Blog Herald Losing It?

I just checked the alexa graph for the blog herald, and it seems like the traffic on the blog herald is dropping. Take a look at the graph below and read on after it. As you can see the graph is steadily dropping..

(for those who don’t know the blog herald: read my previous posts)

alexa graph for the blog herald april 16th 2006

Well, I know that the alexa data isn’t exactly precise - not at all - but for a site with that many loyal readers and regular visitors, I’d say that it there must be something to it.

This is on of the dangers with buying blogs that have been mentioned a couple of times - If writing the blog is taken over by someone else, then the loyality of the readers might disappear, since they were there reading because of the blogger and not the blog itself.

Of course you’d expect to lose some readers when changing blog ownership, and you should also expect to gain some new readers through synergy with other blogs, a new blogger etc.

I’d love to hear a comment on it from Matt / BlogMedia.biz.

Also, read what Barry Bell at wurk.net recently wrote about the blog herald.

Web Development Blog for Sale, $500 monthly revenue

digitalmediaminute.com web development blog screenshotThere is a blog about web development, programming and standards for sale at SitePoint. The blog is digitalmediaminute.com and it should be earning around $500 a month from approx. 84.000 monthly. And 1000 daily pageviews should be coming from loyal readers - the seller states that there is ~600 subscribers of the RSS feed.

The seller has written a very good description: “This site is a weblog that consists of over 2400 posts. Each post is related to the subject area of web development, programming and standards. The site has a couple of extremely popular posts like my Character Entity Reference, Installing Rails on Fedora Core 4 and a list of top 12 Ruby On Rails Tutorials. This site is full of great content that ranks very high in Google.

The blog is for sale on auction with the bidding to start at $10.000, which seems a little bit high, but I think it’s all about the valuation of loyal readers. Let’s just hope that the blog doesn’t have a too personal touch, which will make it hard to take over.

The Blog Herald buyer was BlogMedia, Inc.

blogherald.com screenshotNow it is public who bought Blog Herald, and it was BlogMedia, Inc. I know that I’m not exactly right on time with this post, but I was travelling back home from Istanbul yesterday, and really needed some sleep, so I didn’t see it before now. But back to the sale..

Duncan will be posting for the next two months while BlogMedia gets their team started. This is an obvious thing for blog sales since most blogs are kind of personal, the original blogger will need to help the transition to be smooth.

The Price: The big question is what the price ended up being, but unfortunatly they won’t tell. All they say is that both parties believe it was a fair deal. It is hard to say what the price might have been, but some bloggers are guessing:

I personally guess it would be something like $30,000+, but probably not higher than $35,000, so my guess is much like Chartreuse. My reasons for believing this is that BlogMedia must have known about the first time Blog Herald was supposed to sell, and they didn’t buy it then. And also, I’ve been watching and participating in website auctions for a long time, and since the public bids at SitePoint ended at $25,000 I guess that the private bids haven’t been that much higher.

I’ve previously reported on the sale and the supposed sale:

Blog for Sale: GeekCoffee, $8000 revenue last year

GeekCoffee.net screenshotThe technology blog GeekCoffee (geekcoffee.net & geekcoffee.com) is for sale a NamePros. There isn’t much information in the sales thread, but according to seller the blog should be pulling in around $8000 a year through advertising.

The seller is asking for $8,500, which was lowered from $10,000, so I guess that the interest hasn’t been overwhelming.

Be aware that it seems like there is currently both Google’s Adsense and Yahoo!’s YPN on the blog. This is as far as I know not allowed. So you might not be able to pull the same revenue from it.

Blog for Sale: Cinema Eye ~500,000 pageviews month

CinemaEye.com screenshotThere is a movie blog for sale at SitePoint. The blog is Cinema Eye and apparently it has been for sale before, but something went wrong.

Except from a blog there is also a forum, which seems kind of active, but it looks like most posts are by very few users. The blog has a pagerank 6 and has about 22,000 pages indexed in Google.

The revenue should be $350 monthly through Adsense, Fastclick and MrSkin Cash. But with most of it coming through Fastclick Pop-unders. As I see it, they should stop using those pop-unders, and instead have their Adsense optimized. I’m sure it would help a lot with the earnings if they implement the adsense elements in the content - both on the blog and in the forum.

The starting bid is $5000 with a BIN at $8000. And the bidding was in this ballpark the last time, so it seems that the pricing is fair.

Blog Herald for Sale (again)

blogherald.com screenshotSince I’ve been away for some days now I haven’t noticed that it was announced that the blog herald is up for sale at SitePoint. Apparently the supposed sale felt through due to unknown reasons. I wonder what the reason is, but Duncan and Jeremy might not tell us.

It is going to be exciting to see what it sells for, if thea sale goes through this time. The BIN price is set at $50,000, which is 22 grand less than what it was supposed to sell for the first time.

Syntagma has some interesting stats for the blog herald for interested buyers.

Gadget Blog for Sale: Gadgetizer.com ~500 daily uniques

Gadgetizer.com screenshotThere is a Gadget Blog for sale at Sedo. The blog is Gadgetizer.com which is a frequently updated gadgets weblog featuring news and commentary on consumer electronics and tech issues.

From the Sedotracker I’d say that the blog get about 500 daily uniques. And taken into consideration that there hasn’t really been posted on the blog for the last ten days, those numbers should increase if there is subscribers to the RSS feeds.

The blog has a pagerank 6 and around 1000 pages indexed by Google. It looks like there was a lot of posting until mid-november 2005 and then almost nothing until january 2006. So it is hard to say if there is potential for a loyal readership. And thereby it is hard to value.
