High-End Web Design Publication and Community, ~4,200,000 pageviews

Stylegala.com web design community screenshotI almost didn’t notice that stylegala.com is up for sale at SitePoint. It’s a highly popular web design community with lots of traffic. In the sales thread it says that there is about 4,200,000 monthly pageviews from 900,000 visits. There is of course also revenue which is about $2500 a month.

Well, it’s a very interesting website and there is too much about it for me to write about here. So check out the sales thread. Remember that such a site will take a lot of maintenance.

There has also been some buzz about this on various blogs.

It’s on auction with a starting bid of $30,000 which has already been made, also a $36,000 has been made. But that’s still a steal since the website is worth a lot more.

Pennsylvania Directory, Classifieds and Event Website. ~$3000 monthly revenue

It’s been quite a while since my last post and I regret that. I’ve been so busy that I just couldn’t find the time to write here. Also I find that there has not been as many interesting websites for sale as usually. I often first saw the good ones when they where almost already sold.

Enough about that because there’s a decent website for sale at SitePoint. The website is www.butlerwebs.com and has a steady income and lots of traffic. According to seller it makes about $3000 a month where the $2000 is through adsense. Regarding the traffic he states that there is around 15-20,000 unique visitors daily.

The fact that there’s several recent blog posts which links to the website makes me believe that it’s true. Just try and search for the website on technorati and you’ll see them.

It’s an auction and the bidding starts at $26,000, which it definitely must be worth.

BlogExplosion has been sold for a six figure amount

blogexplosion.com blogging community screenshotI just found out that BlogExplosion (which I previously reported being for sale) has been sold for a pretty decent amount. On their blog they writeOur final closing price was in the six figures and well beyond our minimum bid of $100,000“. That’s a very nice sale, and for the notice it was brokered by Jeremy Wright!

On the official BlopExplosion blog they also write about a lot of new features and improvements that will be implemented. It’s great to see that the buyer has big plans for the website, and that they’re not just interested in “milking the cow”.

Are Some Webmasters Financial Masterminds?

Online Investment and website assetsI just finished reading a great book called Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert T. Kiyosaki. And I thought that I should write about the financial intelligence of some webmasters.

Many of the people that daily are active in the buy/sell website forums, they have understood what it is all about. They are financial intelligent, so to say.

Here’s the reason for my statement:

  • They are always on the looking for good investments
  • They buy websites for the revenue generated by their websites
  • They improve the websites to generate higher revenues
  • They sell websites for more than they were bought for

This means that they constantly improve their cash flow by improving their website portfolio. And thereby become richer every day. The webmasters are not working for money anymore, the money are working for the webmasters.

Considering that websites typically sell for amounts around 12 months of revenue, this is also a very attractive market. If you’re constantly buying new assets for all the revenue generated by those you currently own, you’ll be experiencing an amazing growth.

Also remember that if you have a corporation for your business you won’t have to pay much in taxes (maybe even nothing) because you get tax deductions for your purchases / investments.

Of course webmasters don’t have to invest in new websites, they can just as well invest in the growth of their current websites.

Drink Recipes Website for Sale, 400,000+ monthly pageviews

mydrinkrecipes.com drink recipes website screenshotOn SitePoint and DigitalPoint there is a site called MyDrinkRecipes.com for sale. It’s a rather popular drink recipes website with 400,000+ monthly pageviews done by approx. 4,000 daily unique visitors.

By checking out the stats provided in the sales threads I found that there is definitely space for improvements regarding SEO for Google. The website receives only a little percentage of the overall search engine traffic from Google, which I believe doesn’t reflect the actual amount of searches on each individual search engine.

Another thing I found, that I believe all potential buyers should look into is that about 80% of the sessions doesn’t have a referrer. This is a little odd, but maybe the seller can clarify the issue. It could be that there are that many regular visitors, but I don’t think that is possible.

This website is for sale on auction with a starting bid of $3,000 and a BIN price of $6,500, which seems a little bit high considering that it makes on average $240 a month. And drinks websites doesn’t have any special growth potential - it takes hard work.

Is The Blog Herald Losing It?

I just checked the alexa graph for the blog herald, and it seems like the traffic on the blog herald is dropping. Take a look at the graph below and read on after it. As you can see the graph is steadily dropping..

(for those who don’t know the blog herald: read my previous posts)

alexa graph for the blog herald april 16th 2006

Well, I know that the alexa data isn’t exactly precise - not at all - but for a site with that many loyal readers and regular visitors, I’d say that it there must be something to it.

This is on of the dangers with buying blogs that have been mentioned a couple of times - If writing the blog is taken over by someone else, then the loyality of the readers might disappear, since they were there reading because of the blogger and not the blog itself.

Of course you’d expect to lose some readers when changing blog ownership, and you should also expect to gain some new readers through synergy with other blogs, a new blogger etc.

I’d love to hear a comment on it from Matt / BlogMedia.biz.

Also, read what Barry Bell at wurk.net recently wrote about the blog herald.

Popular Graphics Forum For Sale, ~225,000 pageviews a month

climb-x.com graphics forum screenshotThere is a graphics forum for sale on SitePoint. The URL for the forum is www.climb-x.com and it seems to be a very popular forum as the seller states. According to the visible forum stats on the website, there is almost 7.000 members and 90.000 posts.

In the sales thread on SitePoint the seller has written that there is ~225.000 pageviews a month. It also says that the site makes $700 a month. There is a lot more information in the sales thread, that I think you should check out.

It is on auction with a starting bid of $2000, and a suggested BIN of $6000, so it seems possible to grap this site for a decent price.

Web Development Blog for Sale, $500 monthly revenue

digitalmediaminute.com web development blog screenshotThere is a blog about web development, programming and standards for sale at SitePoint. The blog is digitalmediaminute.com and it should be earning around $500 a month from approx. 84.000 monthly. And 1000 daily pageviews should be coming from loyal readers - the seller states that there is ~600 subscribers of the RSS feed.

The seller has written a very good description: “This site is a weblog that consists of over 2400 posts. Each post is related to the subject area of web development, programming and standards. The site has a couple of extremely popular posts like my Character Entity Reference, Installing Rails on Fedora Core 4 and a list of top 12 Ruby On Rails Tutorials. This site is full of great content that ranks very high in Google.

The blog is for sale on auction with the bidding to start at $10.000, which seems a little bit high, but I think it’s all about the valuation of loyal readers. Let’s just hope that the blog doesn’t have a too personal touch, which will make it hard to take over.

Console Site Network for Sale, $2000+ monthly revenue

psp-spot.com screenshotThere is a console games site network for sale at DNforum. The websites in the network are psp-spot.com, ps3-spot.com and xbox360-spot.com. The entire network has a monthly revenue of $2000+ and there is a lot of traffic on the websites, but with the PSP site as the “main attraction”.

There is a very well populated forum at the PSP site with almost 60.000 members. The sites are large and a little bit hard to get a full understand of within short time, so I won’t go into further details. But if you’re interested in that kind of websites I think you should check it out.

This is what the seller says about the auction:
I will entertain offer’s over $xx,xxx
I will leave up for sale for the next 24 hours, Highest bidder will Take.
